  • In Ireland, gas work must by law be done by a Registered Gas Installer (RGI) and electrical work by a contractor registered with Safe Electric. Verify the registration on the public register before any gas or electrical job, as using an unregistered installer is illegal and dangerous.

  • General plumbing isn't a single statutory register in Ireland, so check the business is a registered company on the CRO (Companies Registration Office, core.cro.ie) or a registered sole trader, has a tax clearance certificate, and carries public liability insurance.
  • Any gas work, boilers, hobs, gas heating, is legally restricted and must be done by a Registered Gas Installer with RGII (Register of Gas Installers of Ireland, rgi.ie); never let a general plumber touch gas without it.
  • For notifiable works under the Building Control Regulations, confirm you'll get the relevant Certificate of Compliance, and favour recent, verifiable reviews.
  • Get an itemised written quote including VAT, materials and call-out terms before any work starts.
