- The titles 'Building Surveyor' and 'Quantity Surveyor' are legally protected in Ireland under the Building Control Act 2007: a chartered building surveyor must be on the statutory register held by the SCSI (Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland, scsi.ie); verify their registration.
- For a pre-purchase survey, agree the survey type and scope, and confirm the surveyor's professional indemnity insurance.
- A chartered building surveyor can act as Assigned Certifier on works under the Building Control (Amendment) Regulations: confirm their role if relevant.
